Thanks for seeing the gross injustice being visited upon the residents of the 3900 homes on the County side of the Dufferin closure barrier. There's no doubt that someone will end up dying or sustaining a more serious injury as a result of extended EMS response times just so the few people living on Dufferin Ave. and Stewart St. won't have their sense of aesthetics spoiled by County People invading their Piece of Paradise by driving on Dufferin and Stewart. As for Bob Buster's conduct, even hillbilly County People know a conflict of interest when they see one. We might even be able to find a way to pool our vocabulary words and write letters to the DA's Public Integrity Unit or even the Attorney General (I dun herd they got this thing called the Fair Political Practices Act!).

It appears that the vast majority of city residents (who have an opinion) are in favor of the closure, and the vast majority of county residents (who have an opinion) are against it. Of course, the Riverside City Council is only elected by, and only represents, the first group. Is anybody really surprised at the result?

The only realistic solution for county residents is to pressure their own elected representatives to build Street A.

You guys are being boneheads about this. There is plenty of access to get in and out of your respective communities. Why don't you focus your energy on the property tax gouging that's taking place. The street was a sham anyway. Hardly kept up and always flooded during the wet season. Just move on and spend time on more important issues. -g

This is where the attention needs to go for all of us opposed to this closure. We need to become annexed. By becoming annexed, we will then be considered City. I guess the city tried to annex the Orchard years ago, but the area residents did not want it. If we become annex, we will then have a vote and a say in opening the street back up. We will also then be considered the "sphere of Influence" whereas now we are not. Also, we will be able to vote for City Council members, and then get rid of MacArthur by voting against him if need be. Also, there's a good chance we can all become Riverside City Public Utilities and save some money by not using Edison anymore.
How we become annexed, I do not know. Anyone know how to start that process and get this going. Let me know if you guys support this idea.

I agree completely with the respectful approach detailed above. The whole idea of threatening to shop in Corona and telling the city council members that they were on the take financially was not a correct or reasonable way to handle this. Using La Sierra to Stewart to Dufferin will still be my route of choice if I am going towards Woodcrest on VB. Another approace would be to report this closure as an evironmental violation at http://www.epa.gov/compliance/complaints/index.html. If the city's numbers on traffic are credible they have just asked cars to reroute to the tune of thousands of gallons of fossil fuel burned per month and the associated emissions. If that is not an enviromental violation worthy of investigation I am not sure what is. Do we know if they had an Environmental study on this? Also, do we know if a study was done on special needs student transportation. Apparently there is a maximum time those kids can be on school transportation. I just recalled the last time this was closed there was some massive school bus delays.

I am continually impressed with the excellent information provided by this website, as well as the reasonable, non-knee jerk call for action you provide. I hope that some of the anger and passion that other "posters" are exhibiting is used for the constructive purposes that your website promotes. It's easy to honk horns and shout at houses (on Dufferin) and blame those who really had nothing to do with the closure, but that will accomplish nothing. Let's do real work and contact the people responsible like you suggest.

I called and spoke with Sharon at (951) 826-5366. She was very nice and listened to my complaint about having no access to Dufferin. My children will be attending a school in Woodcrest, as required by RUSD, and now the drive will be even worse for the bus driver as well as the parents making this treck. She took my concerns down and will give them to city engineer to see what can be done. I also stated that emergency vehicles, such as fire trucks, only have La Sierra/McAllister as their entrance into neighborhoods of hundreds of homes. There is access to The Orchards up La Sierra, but that winds around and would not be very useful to us in Stone Harbor/Bridgeport in an emergency. It is worth more people calling her to see what "imporvements" the city traffic engineer can come up with, such as building McAllister all the way through. I recommend calling her so more voices can be heard.
