January 21, 2016 by Ole Leave a Comment

** Update: Wang Cho Korean BBQ in Riverside Plaza is open. **

I saw this recently at Riverside Plaza:

Wang Cho Riverside Plaza

According to its website, Wang Cho Korean BBQ is scheduled to open later this month. Judging from the menu, I am absolutely going to give this place a try.

If you’re looking for a job, check out the job fair:

Jamba Juice – The Crossings at Corona

January 5, 2016 by Ole Leave a Comment

My first post of the year is about a place I have visited many times over the past few weeks… Jamba Juice in Corona Crossings.

Jamba Juice - Crossings at Corona

My first visit to Jamba Juice was back in the early 90s in Irvine after a trip to the gym. I loved it.

Jamba Juice has expanded the menu since then, and now offers many different smoothie combinations, juices and even baked goods.

Jamba Juice

Jamba Juice

My favorite is still the classic Strawberries Wild smoothie, although I now order it in the new “Make It Light” version, which cuts down on the calories, sugar and carbs by replacing the frozen yogurt with a “lower calorie dairy base”. I also think it tastes better this way.

I change it up sometimes with some of the all fruit / veggie smoothies, including the Strawberry Whirl, Apple n’ Greens and Berry Upbeet. With all of the different combinations, I think it would be difficult to find something you don’t like.

Jamba Juice Classic / Fruit / Veggie

You can also get some additional protein, energy, vitamins, etc. by adding a “boost”.

Jamba Juice Boosts

This location in Corona Crossings is nice because you can sit out by the fountain and enjoy your smoothie.

Especially a Make It Light Strawberries Wild with soy protein.

Hibachi Grill Buffet Coming Soon? – Riverside, CA

IMG_0570-u

I saw this last week on Indiana in Riverside. This is the building previously occupied by Carlos O’Brien’s.

There were people working on the building and there is a pending ABC license application, but I don’t know when it will open or exactly what it will offer.

Do you?

Armando’s Mexican Food on Riverwalk – Riverside

October 6, 2015 by Ole Leave a Comment

When I drive over to Riverwalk Parkway in Riverside, it is usually to visit Wingstop (my favorite place for wings).

On a recent trip, I saw a new Mexican food restaurant open in the same shopping center and decided to give it a try.

That new restaurant is Armando’s Mexican Food. Here are some pictures:

IMG_0421-c-u

IMG_0431-cu

Mild to hot… green, red, orange. I tried them all and preferred the red and orange.

IMG_0436-c-u

IMG_0442-c-u

I am a big fan of chorizo and eggs, and they are served all day here. Out of the food I tried over my few visits, this was my favorite.

IMG_0398-c-u

Carne asada and pollo asada tacos. As usual, I skip the cilantro and onions.

IMG_0417-c-u

Pollo asada tostadas. Lots of lettuce.

IMG_0450-c-u

Carne asada fries with guacamole on the side. I didn’t expect it to be this big of an order.

Disneyland Passport Price Increases – Effective 10/04/15

October 4, 2015 by Ole Leave a Comment

$1,049… the new price of an Annual Passport to Disneyland and California Adventure without blockout dates (subject to capacity).

The most recent price I could find for the “legacy” Premium Passport (no longer sold) was $779, which means having access to both parks without any blockout dates will now cost you $270 more per year.

Here is a summary of the Annual Passport options:
(source: https://disneyland.disney.go.com/passes/)

20151004-passport-prices

I haven’t been following the prices lately since we let our passes expire a few months ago, but it appears that individual ticket prices remain unchanged since the prior increase:

$93 – one park access (ages 3-9)
$99 – one park access (ages 10+)
$56 – park hopper upgrade per ticket

Buffalo Wild Wings – Tyler Mall in Riverside, CA

September 21, 2015 by Ole Leave a Comment

The first time I tried the Buffalo Wild Wings at Corona Crossings, I wasn’t impressed. After BWW opened at the Galleria at Tyler (Tyler Mall), I decided to give it another try.

Glad I did.

IMG_6577-c-u

There doesn’t seem to be a seat in the house that doesn’t have a view of numerous TVs. We usually end up in the bar area.

IMG_7317-c-u

I like that they have jerseys from some of the local schools hanging up in one of the dining rooms.

IMG_0121-c-u

Cheese curds. The main reason we go back.

IMG_6402-c-u

In addition to cheese curds, and, of course, wings, B-Dub’s offers burgers, sandwiches, salads, and more. Here are some pictures of the food…

French Fries and Potato Wedges:

IMG_0112-c-u

IMG_6730-c-u

Wings: (We prefer the Chipotle BBQ and Buffalo dry seasonings over the sauces for our wings.)

Boneless:

Traditional:

Popcorn Shrimp:

IMG_6785-c-u

Chicken Wrap:

Celery and Carrots (with your wings):

IMG_7348-c-u

There is also a group game room, although I think I’ve only seen people in it once.

IMG_0120-c-u

Why we’ll go back… Cheese curds, dry seasoning and sports.

Famous Dave’s, Long Beach

August 22, 2015 by Ole Leave a Comment

IMG_9666-c-u

I drove out to Long Beach last weekend to pick up my packet for the Long Beach Triathlon. To thank my youngest son for being my carpool buddy, I took him to his favorite barbecue place… Famous Dave’s.

Famous Dave’s used to be my favorite place for barbecue too, until the bad visits to our local Famous Dave’s locations started to eclipse the good ones.

This was our first visit to Famous Dave’s Long Beach, and it was GREAT.

IMG_9665-c-u

IMG_9663-c-u

IMG_9659-c-u

Unlike our local Famous Dave’s in Riverside, Long Beach still has the checkered tablecloths and all of the sauces on the table.

IMG_9634-c-u1

My son was pleased that he could order chips with his Devil’s Spit burger. For some reason, chips are no longer available at our local Famous Dave’s.

IMG_9647-c-u

Most importantly to me, the brisket was awesome. Not only could I break it apart with my fork, it was so tender that it actually fell apart. This is the brisket that made Famous Dave’s my favorite BBQ place.

IMG_9649-c-u1

Thank you Famous Dave’s Long Beach for a great visit.

Now that I know today is National Hot Dog Day, I am finally going to post some pictures of our visit to The Hot Dog Shoppe in Corona.

IMG_4824-c-fb

I actually meant to post these a few months ago, so I guess I have another entry in my “forgotten pictures” category.

MacGuffins Bar & Lounge – AMC Tyler Galleria, Riverside

July 10, 2015 by Ole Leave a Comment

“Alright, well, you can walk into a movie theater in Amsterdam and buy a beer. And I don’t mean just like in no paper cup, I’m talking about a glass of beer.” – Vincent, talking to Jules, in Pulp Fiction

Looks like you can buy a beer (along with wine and cocktails) in Riverside…

MacGuffins Bar & Lounge at the AMC Tyler Galleria 16:

“Named after a term coined by famed filmmaker Alfred Hitchcock, MacGuffins is an inviting bar where guests can shake up their movie-going experience and order beer, wine, and cocktails. For the enjoyment of guests 21 and over only. Alcoholic beverages may be consumed at the bar or in the theatre auditorium.” – amctheatres.com

Another forgotten picture…

I took this picture about a month ago at the corner of Magnolia and Van Buren in Riverside:

I drove by yesterday, and it is still a dirt lot.

In addition to the Sonic Drive-In, a Walgreens pharmacy is also expected to be built at the intersection according to the Press-Enterprise.
