$5 Movies at Dos Lagos 15

December 23, 2017 by Ole Leave a Comment

Like most people, I like movies.  When we first moved out to Riverside, there were no movie theaters close to us.  Now there are three within a few miles, two of which are practically across the street from each other.

One of them is in The Shops at Dos Lagos in Corona, which has been operated by Starlight Cinemas since 2014.

As of December 23, 2017, regular adult admission is $12, but if you go before noon or anytime on Tuesday or Thursday, admission is only $5 (not including surcharges for 3D or EPEX formats). These are great prices for such a nice theater.

In fact, just a few nights ago, I saw a movie on opening night for $5. Hard to beat that deal.

A little history:

This theater opened in 2006 as the Krikorian Dos Lagos 15. Although it was a nice theater, Krikorian closed abruptly in July 2010.

The theater was reopened a few weeks later by Phoenix Big Theaters.

Then in 2014, Starlight Cinemas took over. Here is how it looks as of December 2017:

Please Don’t Use Your Cell Phone During a Movie

March 31, 2012 by Ole 2 Comments

Cell phone use during a movie bugs me, whether it is the beacon of light emanating from a cell phone screen in the dark movie theater or the sound of someone carrying on a conversation.

Although I know that I am not the only who feels this way, The Hollywood Reporter revealed some interesting findings in a survey of 750 social network users ranging in age from 13 to 49 conducted by market research firm Penn Schoen Berland:

Fifty-five percent of moviegoers have texted during a movie. And film moguls, take note: The poll found that a majority of 18-to-34-year-olds believe using social media while watching a movie in a theater would add to their experience, and nearly half would be interested in going to theaters that allowed texting and web surfing. “Millennials want their public moviegoing experience to replicate their own private media experiences,” says Penn.

Apparently, the “please turn off your cell phones” announcements aren’t working too well.

I have never seen a movie theater employee ask someone to stop using a cell phone during a movie, so I sometimes end up doing it myself.

So, if someone asks you to stop using your cell phone during a movie at Corona Crossings, Dos Lagos or the Tyler Galleria, it just might be me.

$5 Tuesdays at Dos Lagos 15

August 24, 2010 by Ole Leave a Comment

Like most people, we like movies.  When we first moved out to Riverside, there were no movie theaters close to us.  Now there are three within a few miles, two of which are practically across the street from each other.

Although it was a nice theater, the Krikorian at Dos Lagos closed abruptly in early July 2010.  The theater was reopened a few weeks later by Phoenix Big Theaters.  To show support for the new operator, I took the family to see a movie on the Tuesday night the theater reopened.  We were pleased to find out that tickets cost only $5 on Tuesdays.

Although the theater currently shows older and independent movies, $5 is such a comparatively low price that we went back on a subsequent Tuesday to see another movie.

This is a nice theater, and according to the Press Enterprise, the “not-quite-new titles” are temporary “until new deals are reached for first-run fare.”
