I drove by Qdoba in Moreno Valley today and noticed that it is closed. Where will I get my Mexican Gumbo now?

Qdoba Mexican Grill – Moreno Valley

March 29, 2011 by Ole Leave a Comment

About a month ago I heard a commercial on the radio for a Mexican food restaurant that serves Mexican Gumbo. I love Mexican food and I love gumbo, so I had to give it a try. I didn’t recognize the name of the restaurant from the commercial, but a quick Google search led me to Qdoba Mexican Grill in Moreno Valley.

According to the Company’s website, Qdoba has over 500 restaurants across the country but only one in Riverside County.

If you’ve eaten at Chipotle, you might be thinking that Qdoba is very similar. It is, and it isn’t. Both restaurants prepare your food in front of you, both have similar ingredients, and both have some of the same menu items. For instance, both make great burritos and tacos, and both serve chips seasoned with lime and kosher salt, but Qdoba offers a bit more.

My favorite meal at Qdoba is the Mexican Gumbo, which is made with rice, pinto or black beans, tortilla soup, your choice of meat (or none), your choice of salsa, sour cream, cheese and tortilla strips. I prefer the black beans with steak and no sour cream. This is not a traditional Cajun / Creole gumbo, but it does have a little bit of spice and a lot of meat (check out how much steak is in this picture).

Qdoba also makes great quesadillas and nachos. One of my favorites is the chicken quesadilla. Because the chicken is so great, I opt for just chicken and cheese in my quesadilla. Since you watch them prepare it, you can ask for other ingredients to suit your tastes.

This is one of our favorite places to eat.
