December 21, 2013 by Ole Leave a Comment

For those of you who have seen this sign off the 91 freeway and wondered what this place would be like, keep reading.

Riverside Indoor Shooting Range (RISR) had a Facebook fans feedback day on Wednesday, and I took advantage of the opportunity to send some rounds down range.

RISR is clean, new and huge.

I picked up a few flyers as I walked out and this excerpt from one of them gives you an idea of what to expect when you walk in:

-30 Shooting stations (Handicap accommodation available)
-An electronic target retrieval system with no line breaks for more trigger time
-Shotguns and rifles welcome
-Marksmanship training
-Firearms safety training
-Firearm rentals
-Private or group instruction/classes available
-Expert gunsmithing and cleaning

Riverside Indoor Shooting Range, located conveniently, right off the 91 freeway, here in Riverside, California, will/is the largest indoor shooting range in California. Its 21,000 Sq. ft. spacious facility includes 30 individual shooting booths, 25 lanes for firearms and 5 lanes for archery. Each of the 25 lanes has automated target retrieval system allowing the shooter to set the target at the exact desired distance. Our 25 firearm lanes are able to accommodate handgun calibers up to 44 magnum, rifles up to 308 and Shotguns, slug & buck shot only. We will offer a large selection of firearms for rent.

The range also has a 4500 sq. ft. lobby area for family members and spectators to enjoy and view inside of the shooting range through numerous large viewing windows. Riverside Indoor Shooting Range is professionally managed with friendly services. Whether you are a first time shooter or have years of experience. Our priority is to provide a safe and fun shooting environment that your whole family can enjoy.

It cost me $20 for two hours of range time. If you want to visit the range more frequently, you might want to consider a membership:

While writing this I noticed that RISR posted new holiday hours to its Facebook page, so you might want to check it out. Here is the link:

Riverside Indoor Shooting Range – Coming Soon

July 25, 2013 by Ole Leave a Comment

If you drive on the 91 between La Sierra and Magnolia, you might have seen this sign:

This building, located at 11631 Sterling Ave. in Riverside, is the future home of Riverside Indoor Shooting Range.

According to Riverside Indoor Shooting Range’s Facebook page, there will be 30 lanes for pistol, rifle, shotgun and bow practice.

The range is still under construction, but judging from the pictures on FB, it looks like it is getting close to being completed.

For more information, visit Riverside Indoor Shooting Range’s Facebook page. I will also try to post an update on this site when it opens.

Turner’s / Raahauge’s 2013 Shooting Sports Fair – Corona

June 23, 2013 by Ole Leave a Comment

I meant to post about this a few weeks ago, but the day job just keeps getting in the way…

2013 Shooting Sports Fair

A few weekends ago, I went to the Turner’s Outdoorsman / Raahauge’s Shooting Sports Fair at Raahauge’s Shooting Enterprises in Corona. This event has been going on for thirty years, but this is only the second time I have attended.

Some of the booths

This event allows you to learn about and even fire guns from many different manufacturers. Manufacturer representatives and/or instructors provide guidance while you operate a firearm.

Tommy guns

Here are some of the guns I have fired at the Sports Fair:

Shooting the S&W M&P45 in 2012

  • Smith & Wesson 500
  • Smith & Wesson M&P45
  • Springfield Armory M1A
  • Thompson/Center Encore .308 pistol
  • Beretta PX4 Storm
  • Mossberg 500 Flex 12 gauge
  • Thompson machine gun (semi-automatic only, but still fun to shoot)
  • .50 caliber machine gun (again, semi-automatic only)
  • Remington semi-automatic 12 gauge

Some 2013 pricesSome more 2013 prices

The prices to try out the various firearms range from a few dollars for a few rounds to $15 or more per round for specialized firearms such as the Barrett 50 caliber BMG. You can even shoot a Gatling gun.

Hunting dogs exhibition

If you don’t like guns, this is probably not the event for you. Even though there are other activities such as a rock wall, archery and fishing, this is definitely a firearms event.

I’ll be back next year.

Riverside Magnum Range

December 12, 2011 by Ole 3 Comments

I like to visit the shooting range every now and then.  The closest one to me is Riverside Magnum Range.

This is an indoor range located near the 91 freeway on Sampson near Buchanan Ave.  I have only been to one other indoor range and that was many years ago, so I can’t really compare this place to other indoor ranges.   The range has motorized target hanging systems in each lane and distance markings on the floor so you can tell how far you are sending your target down range.  Although the markings end at 40 feet, I believe the maximum distance is about 50 feet.

Riverside Magnum Range Hours and PricingI’ve seen law enforcement officers shoot here, which I assume is a good sign that this is a good place to go.  The range has rules including no shotguns and no rapid fire, and I’ve seen the range officer walk through the shooting area many times to make sure that everyone is operating their firearms safely.  The price to shoot here is pretty reasonable, especially if you are active military or law enforcement.  The best deal is for women, who get to shoot for free on Thursdays.  My wife has gone with me a few times to take advantage of this deal.

If you are a responsible handgun owner and want to get some practice, this place might be worth a try.
