Texas Roadhouse Grand Opening – Corona, CA

July 22, 2014 by Ole 1 Comment

Texas Roadhouse in the Corona Hills Plaza is now open to the public. We went for dinner on the day it opened and it was packed… even at 4 PM.

When you walk in, you notice the freshly baked bread in the service window and the display case full of steaks. A nice start.

The hostess brought fresh bread with her when she showed us to our table. A bucket of peanuts was already waiting for us.

We started off with the Cheese Fries ($6.99), which are steak fries covered in cheese and bacon. The fries were seasoned very well and didn’t last long.

Update: 07/26/14: We went back and tried the Rattlesnake Bites ($4.99). Diced jalapeños and jack cheese. Awesome.

Between us, we tried the 8 oz. Sirloin ($12.99), the 10 oz. Ft. Worth Ribeye ($16.99) and the steak I’ve been waiting for, the Bone-In Ribeye ($24.99). All of the steaks were tender and well-seasoned, and came out from the kitchen very quickly.

Three out of our four steaks were cooked perfectly. The fourth didn’t quite make it to medium rare throughout, but I chalk that up to it being the first night. It was still a tasty steak.

The Ft. Worth Ribeye was my favorite of the night, and my sons and I are already looking forward to going back and trying the Porterhouse T-Bone and the Dallas Filet. I also see some Rattlesnake Bites (fried jalapeños and jack cheese) in our future.

I also added a Sidekick of shrimp ($6.99).

This is a good family steakhouse. The staff was friendly, the service was very good and the building is brand new.

The steaks are good too. We’ll be back.

Texas Roadhouse Coming to Corona Hills Plaza

May 1, 2014 by Ole 2 Comments

Update: It’s open. See our post about the grand opening on 7/21/14.

texas-roadhouse-20140430

I’ve never eaten at a Texas Roadhouse, but I’m looking forward to trying this place when it opens in June (according to the company’s website).

Texas Roadhouse is on McKinley near Costco and Home Depot in the Corona Hills Plaza. It looks like they are completely renovating (maybe rebuilding) the building previously occupied by Backwoods BBQ and Honolulu Harry’s.

I hope Texas Roadhouse has better luck with this location.

If you haven’t heard of Texas Roadhouse, here is the boilerplate from a recent press release:

Based in Louisville, Kentucky, with more than 425 locations in 48 states, Texas Roadhouse opened its doors in 1993. The Louisville, KY based company is famous for hand-cut steaks, made-from-scratch sides, fresh-baked bread, and its lively atmosphere. In 2014 Texas Roadhouse was named one of Employee’s Choice Best Places to work by Glassdoor, in 2012 Texas Roadhouse was named Top Steakhouse in the Nation’s Restaurant News’ Consumer Picks survey, in 2007 and 2008 Forbes magazine ranked the company as one of the 200 Best Small Companies and in 2009 the company was ranked “Best Value” by readers of Consumer Reports magazine.

Steak good.

UPDATE 07/09/14:

I stopped by today and there is a big sign on the front of the building announcing that it will be opening on July 21st.

Lone Star Steakhouse and Saloon, Corona

June 12, 2009 by Ole 4 Comments

Update 01/24/17: Lone Star is closed.

There are reports that other locations have closed around the country, including:

Colorado, North Dakota, South Dakota, Iowa…

Steak good. I get a little primitive when I think about steak, and when my inner carnivore growls, Lone Star Steakhouse and Saloon in Corona is the place to go.

Lone Star Steakhouse, Corona

If you like to smother your steak in steak sauce, then this is not the place for you.  The steak is too good to ruin it with steak sauce.  This is especially true of my personal favorite, the Cajun Ribeye, which is a 16 14 oz. steak marinated in rubbed with Cajun spices and mesquite-grilled over an open flame.  This is one of my favorite steaks anywhere, and in my opinion, is by far the best steak served at any casual dining steak house I’ve ever tried.

I also like to add a side of Grilled Shrimp.

If Cajun isn’t your style, there are many other steaks to choose from ranging from the 9 6 oz. San Antonio Bacon-Wrapped Sirloin to the 20 oz. Porterhouse.

There is also much more than steak.  Prime rib, lobster, Salmon, ribs, pork chops, burgers… I can’t say I’ve tried everything on the menu, but everything I have tried is great.

There are also great appetizers and salads.  My favorites are the Lettuce Wedge and the Wild Fire Shrimp, which are small jalapeno spiced fried shrimp served with a side of ranch Loaded Cheese Fries.  We also love the rolls, which are baked in the restaurant.

Lone Star is good for all crowds.  There is a full bar in the middle of the restaurant for the grown-ups, and the rest of the restaurant is suitable for families.  Kids get separate menus with activity pages and crayons, and there are TVs throughout the restaurant which usually show sports.  The servers keep it lively by doing a line dance during the dinner hours.  This is a casual restaurant and I’ve seen people wear everything from flip-flops and shorts to suits and ties.

Steak good.  Lone Star steak great.

Original Roadhouse Grill – Riverside, CA

May 5, 2009 by Ole Leave a Comment

Before we moved to Riverside, we stumbled upon the Original Roadhouse Grill in Riverside during a house-hunting trip.  It was great.  The steaks were perfectly cooked and the service was great.  We thought we found our new steakhouse.  During the next year or so, we visited Roadhouse many times and found it to be hit and miss.  So we stopped going… until now.

On our way home from the AVP tournament in Riverside, my daughter and I passed by the Roadhouse and decided to give it a try.  We’re glad we did.

The Original Roadhouse Grill is a casual, rustic place with peanut shells on the floor.  We felt perfectly comfortable in our shorts and flip-flops (after all, we did just come from a beach volleyball tournament).  After we were seated, we got our bucket of peanuts and proceeded to do our part to add more peanut shells to the floor.

bucket of peanuts 12 oz rib-eyeMy daughter ordered the 12 oz rib-eye ($18.99) with steamed broccoli and a baked potato.  The steak was very flavorful (she was nice to me and let me try a bite) and cooked to a perfect medium-rare.

caesar salad robby gordon rib-eyeI started with a caesar salad, and followed with the Robby Gordon #7 rib-eye ($23.99).  This is an 18 oz steak marinated in Jim Beam, brown sugar and pineapple sauce, and covered in Spicy Lassos (thin onion rings). This is not the kind of steak I would normally order, but it was very good and cooked to a perfect medium-rare.  I also got a side of grilled shrimp ($5.99) and tried some great macaroni and cheese.

Overall, it was a very good meal.  We will definitely be back with the whole family.
